L'aria sporca di Reykjavik
few days ago came the news that the air in Reykjavik is dirty. Or so we have been told by our hosts at a lunch during the chat. It seems that the strong wind coming from Europe has imported, as well as toxic financial products, including a fair amount of smog. I was really curious to hear with my nose and my lungs bag of dirty air that would have sullied that he remembered as one of the capitals of the world more livable. When last Friday we took advantage of our free day to go and renew the residence permit of Janis I had confirmation of what I thought: the concept of Icelandic smog is light years away from the Italian. Certainly, compared to our fjord air in Reykjavik is dirty. The freeway in rush hour is crowded, you can smell in the port of port and some factory there (actually there is one even close to us ... an aluminum plant that spoils the entire fjord, except that cover our windows with a ledge of rock that seems designed ad hoc). But if this is smog, the IES is the KT impact that caused the extinction of the dinosaurs! This relativism do not know how to interpret it: from a certain point of view I tranquilizza. Icelanders are so used to clean air that does not take much to irritate them. But I fear that the effect will be the reverse: they are so accustomed to clean air which could end up with it for granted. Although Italy is not talked about (in fact, if you try to do as I did when I started in a newsgroup when you take the Icelandic financial crisis for paranoid), the natural heritage of this island is in danger. The project to expand production of aluminum is active for some time, as well as the construction of other dams (contracted out to Impregilo, because the Italians, you know, if there is to deface not want to be second to none). I do not know if the change of political wind will be sufficient to take account of environmental issues (though the Green party came out much strengthened by this election ... but for how long? And then ... they will be serious environmental or our? ?). Plus there is the question wins the Pole, with Russia to Put-in (in culture), and in business with members of the old government, which has long set his sights on Iceland was a ... project for a refinery in the West Fjords, but honestly I have no further news about it ... I mean, what little I know and I understand the wild nature for which Iceland is famous today, the nature of which Janis and I are in love is anything but obvious . The change will not fare a year or two, but in Italy half a century was enough to spoil all the defacement, I admit that a little 'concern of the test. But now I turn off the computer and go outside to breathe .... Happy weekend everyone!
