Amos 9
1 I saw the Lord standing on the altar, saying: Smite the capitals and architraves are shaken! Break it on the head of everyone, and I'll kill the rest with the sword! 5 Il Signore, l'Iddio degli eserciti, è quegli che tocca la terra, ed essa si strugge, e tutti i suoi abitanti fanno cordoglio; essa si solleva tutta quanta come il fiume, e s'abbassa come il fiume d'Egitto. 6 Egli è colui che costruisce nei cieli le sue stanze superiori, e ha fondato la sua vòlta sulla terra; egli chiama le acque del mare, e le spande sulla faccia della terra; il suo nome è l'Eterno.
7 Non siete voi per me come i figliuoli degli Etiopi, o figliuoli d'Israele? dice l'Eterno. Israele non aveva collezionato una buona fama di fronte al Creatore, così Dio disse: io fisserò su di essi i miei occhi per il loro male, e non per il loro bene.
Questo sguardo può risultare inquietante e alle volte invadente, eppure l'empio deve temerlo, perché da quello stesso Dio, di cui oggi il mondo è completamente indifferente, ne discenderà la massima retribuzione per ognuno. Per cosa verremo guardati noi dall'Eterno? Per il nostro male o il nostro bene? A noi la scelta!

Se prima di parlava del suo sguardo, adesso si parla della sua mano... già, perché l'Eterno non guarda tanto per assistere a uno spettacolo, ma per agire.

È in questi due versetti, precisamente, che lo sguardo e l'azione si incrociano e realizzano la giustizia. Già, perché l'Eterno avrebbe eliminato l'empio di mezzo al popolo e avrebbe ritorto il male contro coloro che pensavano frodare senza pagarne le conseguenze.
A questo mondo il male ha sempre delle conseguenze, e alle volte bisogna aspettare dei lunghi anni prima di vederne gli effetti, ma stiamo certi che ci sono!
Ecco la legge dell'Eterno che regna su questo mondo in maniera silente e pacata. Noi vogliamo tutto e subito, ma la vendetta dell'Eterno è qualcosa che agisce in silenzio e talvolta scivola ai nostri piedi senza farsi vedere. Cosa ne sappiamo noi di che cosa c'è nell'intimo dei cuori?
Perciò non sottovalutiamo mai la retribuzione dell'Eterno, perché essa raccoglie i frutti fino all'ultimo seme.
Quando dunque Israele avrebbe potuto rivedere la pace?
11 In quel giorno, io rialzerò la capanna di Davide ch'è caduta, ne riparerò le rotture, ne rileverò le rovine, la ricostruirò com'era ai giorni antichi, 12 affinché possegga il resto d'Edom e tutte le nazioni sulle quali è invocato il mio nome, dice l'Eterno che farà questo.

15 Io li pianterò sul loro suolo, e non saranno mai più divelti dal suolo che io ho dato loro, dice l'Eterno, il tuo Dio.
